This cultural tour is ideal for those wishing to enter Bhutan from the Indian state of Western Bengal via the southern overland border gateway of Phuentsholing. Beginning with a breathtaking journey on roads surrounded by lush green tea plantations with breathtaking views of the Himalayan foothills, this tour explores the highlights of Bhutan’s western valleys. Enjoy the many cultural sites of Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital including the National Memorial Chorten, the National Library, the arts and crafts school and Tashichhoedzong before crossing the 3050m Dochula Pass into the sub-tropical Punakha Valley featuring the incredible the Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakang, temple of the ‘Divine Madman’.

Day 1: Arrive at Phuntsholing (Border town with India, Jaigaon)

Day 2: Phuntsholing to Thimphu

Gradual climb from the Subtropical plain to the Sub-Alpine Forest and mountain till the Capital, Thimphu

Day 3: Thimphu


  • Visit Memorial Chorten (Built in 1974 in loving memory of the Third King, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck)

  • Visit to Changangkha Lhakhang (Built in 13th Century by Lam Phajo Dugom Zhigpo)

  • Visit Takin Reserve (The National Animal of Bhutan)

  • Visit to Tashichho Dzong (The Fortress of the Glorious religion)

  • Visit Traditional Arts and Crafts bazar.

  • Visit Textile Museum.

  • Visit Bhutan Post Museum.

  • Visit Folk Heritage Museum.

Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha.


  • Visit Dochula pass. With the cluster of 108 interesting Stupas built as a tribute to the selfless service and visionary leadership of our Fourth King.

  • Visit the Typical Bhutanese village at Sopsokha- Chimi Lhakhang built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley

  • Visit Punakha Dzong, the second largest and the second oldest monastery in Bhutan located at the confluence of the two great rivers, Pho chhu and Mo chhu.

  • Halt Night at Punakha.

Day 5: Punakha - Paro


  • Drive to Nezergang

  • Hike(30 to 40 mins) to Khamsum Yueley Namgyel Chorten built by The Queen Mother, Her Majesty Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck for the protection of the country and universal peace in the world.

  • Afternoon, drive to Paro

  • Visit Rinpung Dzong at Paro (Fortress built on the heap of jewel) if time permits in the evening.

Day 6: Paro


  • Day hike to Taktsang Monastery . (Tiger Nest- cliff at 914m) Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown to the site of the monastery on the back of the tigress and meditated there in the cave.

  • Visit the Ruins of the Drugyel Dzong. It was built in 1946 to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over the Tibetan invaders.

  • Visit to Kyichu lhakhang. It is one of the 108 temples built by King Songsten Gampo of Tibet in one day.

Day 7: Depart from Paro International Airport.
